Happy New Year! It has been an eventful few weeks. Highlights include:

Visiting the Getty Villa. J. Paul Getty, the extremely rich founder of Getty oil, collected Greek and Roman antiquities. He decided to house all of them in a building modeled after the Villa dei Papiri in Herculaneum, Italy, which was buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. It was a very pleasant visit; we enjoyed strolling through the courtyard and gardens and viewing the exhibits.

Hiking on Christmas Day. Most Christmas mornings are spent opening presents. Ours was spent hiking 7 miles uphill to Mount Wilson with my family. We stopped for lunch along the way. The hike wasn’t too strenuous, but definitely tiring. We were almost too tired to open presents after dinner.

Spending an afternoon in Union Square. Wandered around downtown San Francisco with Jen’s family. The weather has been gorgeous; we ate outside at Santana Row this afternoon.

Eating huge meals. Our huge Christmas Eve dinner, two trips to Souplantation, lots of Chinese food, and all-you-can-eat hot pot for dinner last night.

Taking lots of pictures. Having the DSLR has been a lot of fun, but I think people are getting sick of me lugging the camera bag around and snapping pictures every few minutes. I’ve been trying to take pictures in manual mode for practice. Jen also gave me one of her old photography books. Since I’ve been constrained by my 256MB cards, I end up deleting 80% of the pictures before they get off the camera. So if you see me snapping a picture of you, chances are very good that I’ve already deleted it, so don’t worry.

Playing the Wii. Everyone loves Wii Sports! We have a ton of new Miis. It’s kind of fun to look through them to see who has given it a try.

Hanging out with family friends. Got to spend some quality time with old friends (and new). It’s been great catching up in person. Wow, a lot of our friends have moved out to California!
